Mike Teke, Optimum Coal Holdings CEO

Mike Teke, has been the Chief Executive Officer of Optimum Coal Holdings Limited since March 2010.

Teke serves as a Vice President of Chamber of Mines.

Teke served as Human Resources Executive of Impala Platinum Holdings since April 2005.

He served as Vice President, Human Resources of Ingwe Collieries, now BHP Billiton Energy Coal South Africa Limited.

Teke previously worked in human resources at Bayer and Samancor.

Teke joined Elida Ponds as Human Resources Officer and later moved to Bayer.

Through his career in Human Resources, he has had extensive experience in people and business management, including ESOP implementation.

Teke joined Samancor Manganese as Human Resource Manager at Metalloys before moving to Head Office as Senior Human Resource Manager.

Teke has held various senior human resources and training positions in recent years.

He joined BHP Billiton in 2000.

Teke serves as Non-Executive Chairman of Optimum Coal Holdings Limited and has been its Director since June 2007.

Teke serves as Chairman of the Richard Bay Coal Terminal.

He has been Non-Executive Director of Rolfes Technology Holdings Limited since April 2013.

Teke served as a Director of Zimplats Holdings Ltd since January 2006 until February 2007.

Teke was a member of the IPM from 1992 to 1998, completed a Human Resources Management Program at IPM in 1992 and has completed a Professional Certificate in Management and an Advanced Diploma in Management through Unisa-SBL.

Teke obtained a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Limpopo, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree from the University of Johannesburg and an MBA from the University of South Africa School of Business Leadership – Open University Business School.
