Geoffrey Nzau, South African first black actuary

Geoffrey Nzau, served as a Managing Executive and Managing Director of Public Sector Division at Alexander Forbes Equity Holdings (Proprietary) Limited.

Nzau covered Alexander Forbes offices in 11 Africa countries. He joined Alexander Forbes in 2002.

He spent almost 15 years at Alexander Forbes at different senior roles with stints at related companies.

He served as Director of Africa at Alexander Forbes Limited.

He served as a Business Unit Director at Ginsburg Malan & Carsons. occupied various senior positions including Managing Director of the Public Sector Division and Chief Executive Officer of AfriNet covering and Director; Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

He served as the Managing Director at NBC Employee Benefits and Negotiated Benefits Consultants.

He was a Consulting Actuary at Watson Wyatt Worldwide.

He has spent over eight years studying and working in London.

Nzau was an Actuarial Trainee and Actuary in the international division of the Prudential Assurance Company.

Nzau left corporate world in 2011 after a career spanning over 23 years in financial services across several countries – United Kingdom, Kenya and South Africa.

He was the first black actuary to practice in South Africa and the first Kenyan to qualify as Fellow of institute of Actuaries in 1992.

He played a critical role in advising key state entities like Transnet, Eskom, National Treasury, Government Employees Pension Fund and Political Office Bearers’ Pension Fund among others.

He was an active participant of the National Retirement Benefits Consultative Forum by the National Treasury. He serves as Chairman of Afrocentric Health Solutions.

He serves as a Non Executive Director of Zungu Investments Company (Pty) Ltd. In addition, the Minister of Finance appointed him as a Trustee of the Political Office Bearers Pension Fund.

Nzau is qualified as an Actuary for over 10 years in London. He holds a B.Sc. and FIA.
